Aiden Meyer threw four touchdowns to help lead the Merced College football team to a 41-3 victory over Cabrillo College on Saturday night in Aptos.

Meyer completed 12 of 19 passes for 206 yards.

Jayden Vargas hauled in 16-yard touchdown pass from Meyer to start the scoring early in the second quarter.

Vargas also scored on a 12-yard run to help MC take a 14-3 lead into the half.

The Blue Devils (4-1) then put the game away with 27 points in third quarter.

Meyer connected Ronnie Harris, Isaiah Hidalgo and Luke Anderson on touchdown passes and Jaekwon Haynie-Meraz also returned an interception 42 yards for a score.

The Blue Devils defense held Cabrillo to just 95 yards of total offense, racking up 16 tackles-for-loss, including two sacks by Samari Russo.

Merced College will host San Jose City College on Saturday at 1 p.m.

MC Men’s Soccer — Merced College tied defending Central Valley Conference champion Sequoias on Tuesday and sits in third place in the conference at 1-0-1.

Taft and Fresno both are undefeated at 2-0.

The Blue Devils’ Daniel Borges (Pitman) leads the state in both goals and assists. In Tuesday’s 2-2 tie with Sequoias, Borges scored both goals.

Women’s Water Polo —The Blue Devils defeated Diablo Valley College on Wednesday 17-7.

Liberty Hamilton (Golden Valley) scored five goals, and Gabi Perez (Buhach Colony) registered five assists.

After a week of inactivity, the Devils were bumped from the state’s top-10 ranking in favor of Golden West, despite having beaten Golden West head-to-head earlier in the season, 12-10.

Men’s Water Polo —Scott McCall’s Blue Devils continue to take on the state’s toughest competition.

They went 3-2 last weekend against Southern California teams at the Saddleback tournament in Mission Viejo, Orange County, beating Palomar, El Camino and Ventura, and losing to L.A. Valley and host Saddleback.

Freshmen Tanner Grady (Clovis West) and Kevin Curtiss (Bullard) and sophomore Dominic Guerra (Bullard) stood out. Over the past two weeks, the Devils have played the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6-ranked teams and still have a winning record overall.

On Wednesday they host No. 1 West Valley, along with four-year schools UC Merced and Fresno Pacific.

UC Merced

Women’s Soccer — UC Merced defeated Park University Gilbert 6-0 on Saturday, October 1 to improve to 4-3-2 overall.

Jocelyne Garcia scored two goals and Trinidad Quiroz picked up two assists and a goal to lead the Bobcats.

Freshmen Hannah DeLay, Celeste Suarez and Kaeley Cariglio also scored goals for the Bobcats.

UC Merced outshot Park Gilbert 23-3 in the win.

Men’s Soccer — The Bobcats finished with a 2-2 tied against Park University Gilbert on Saturday, October 1.

The Bobcats are unbeaten through five Cal Pac games for the third consecutive year, posting a 5-1-4 overall and 2-0-3 in the Cal Pac.

Andres Lua and Kevin Capetillo each scored goals for the Bobcats to keep the impressive streak alive.

Lua scored in the first half and Capetillo’s goal came in the 69th minute to tie the game at 2-2.

Lua’s goal was his 11th goal of the season, making him the first Bobcat in program history to score 11 goals in the first ten games of the season. Lua is also currently one of just nine players in the nation with 11 goals this year.

Capetillo was credited with the assist on Lua’s goal, his Cal Pac leading sixth assist of the season.

UC Merced men’s water polo — The UC Merced men’s water polo opened its season at the Keelhauler Classic. The Bobcats went 0-4 against club teams.

Devin Verma highlighted the Bobcats with 16 goals over the weekend.
