David Mejia and Thomas Knierieme both scored second-half goals as the Merced College men’s soccer team came from behind to defeat Clovis 2-1 on Saturday night in the NorCal Regional Playoffs.

The Blue Devils (17-3-3) advance to the elite eight state playoffs next week in Sacramento in just the second year since restarting the program.

Mejia’s goal came on a pass from Julian Cabrera in the 49th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Benji Mejia-Alberto assisted Knierieme with the go-ahead goal just 3 minutes later.

Merced College goalie Angel Ruiz-Hernandez finished with three saves.
