Surdich on Bowling: Behind the Curtain 9-pin no-tap coming to Black Oak Lanes
The Mother Lode 500 Club is hosting a 9-pin no-tap singles tournament July 25 at Black Oak Lanes in Tuolumne.
The Behind the Curtain singles tournament is open to men and women who are current USBC members; non-500 club members are eligible to bowl.
You will roll three games using your 2014-15 book average as of April 15. One out of five bowlers will cash.
This special tournament fills up fast; interested bowlers need to submit entries before the July 23 deadline. Entry fee is $25, and forms are available at Bellevue Bowl.
Our local 500 has sponsored a Behind the Curtain tournament, and the bowlers had a ball. It should be fun trying to roll without seeing the pins or arrows. After bowling, you can try your luck upstairs.

Pennsylvanian takes Sacramento Open – Elysia Current of Ephrata, Pa., won the first Professional Women’s Bowling Association Storm Sacramento Open last weekend at Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes in Citrus Heights.
Heading into the stepladder finals as the second seed with a 217 average for 28 games, Current had a string of six strikes to knock off Missy Parkin of Laguna Hills 248-233 and move into the championship final. Parkin defeated Rocio Restrepo of Louisville, Ohio, 216-202 in the first stepladder match. A total of 80 women rolled in the tournament.
I was waiting for a great match between Current and the top seed, Kristina Wendell of Kingston, N.Y., who came in with a 223 average for her qualifying rounds. But in the championship match, Wendell looked like she was somewhere else; no enthusiasm. Current rolled to a 246-194 victory and won $12,000 Wendell earned a check for $6,000, Parkin earned $4,500 and Restrepo $3,500.
“This is really amazing because the PWBA Tour folded when I graduated high school and everything I had looked forward to I had to put on hold,” Current was quoted as saying by PWBA.com.
Her dream came true.
