Eagles Super Bowl Confetti Reached the Moon, Thanks to Artemis II Astronaut

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of 20 NFL franchises to have won the Super Bowl.

The Eagles are the only NFL franchise to have remnants of its Super Bowl triumph reach the moon.

Earlier this month, NASA’s Artemis II crew completed the first moon mission since Apollo 17 in 1972. The astronauts - Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen - came closer to the moon than any humans had before and flew 694,481 total miles, per NASA press release. After 10 days in space, they safely returned last week.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts welcomed them back to Earth.

“Christina and the Artemis II crew, you guys are such an inspiration,” Hurts said in a video shot at Lincoln Financial Field. “Congratulations on making it back home. See you soon here in Philly. Go Birds.”

On Tuesday, Koch cemented herself as the world’s biggest Eagles fan. Her fandom is so big that it literally cannot be contained to the Earth’s stratosphere.

“Going to the Moon may have been my Super Bowl, but I sure loved watching yours. (I watch Eagles games on Earth, too.),” Koch captioned her Instagram post. “My husband introduced me to this team and city-gritty, hard-working and embodying the underdog mentality. Now I’m all in. As a surprise for him, I flew confetti from Super Bowl LIX around the Moon. Go birds!”

Koch also thanked Hurts and the Eagles for welcoming her home.

The Eagles commented, “We loved watching you Fly [eagle emoji, rocket emoji, green heart emoji].”

The Eagles won their first Super Bowl in franchise history when quarterback Nick Foles unexpectedly led them past Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Philadelphia’s most recent Lombardi Trophy came at the expense of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. The Chiefs had reached the Super Bowl for a third straight year and were looking to complete the NFL’s first-ever three-peat, but the Eagles humiliated them 40-22. Hurts won Super Bowl LIX MVP.
