Patriots' Mike Vrabel Addresses the Aftermath of Dianna Russini Scandal
Last month, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel went viral for all the wrong reasons after he was spotted in photos published by the New York Post at a resort in Arizona with longtime NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
Both parties had little to say after the images surfaced on social media, each denying any romantic involvement. However, Russini ultimately resigned from her role with The Athletic, and on Tuesday - just days before the NFL draft - Vrabel finally addressed the situation while speaking to the media.
"Thank you for your patience that you've shown in a personal and private matter," Vrabel said. "For me, and obviously everybody involved, I know that's not easy for you, and I respect that and appreciate your efforts in doing so.
"I understand I could have addressed you guys sooner, but it was important to me to have a conversation with the players, which I did yesterday, very candidly, as we began our offseason program, which everyone is excited to be a part of. [Patriots V.P. of communications] Stacy [James] had mentioned the players' media availability. It was never my intention to have them speak to you before I did, so I asked him to come today and talk with you."

Vrabel made it clear that addressing the situation with his players, the organization, and, most importantly, his family came first - conversations he described as "positive and productive."
"With that being said, I've had some difficult conversations with people that I care about - my family, the organization, the coaches, the players - and those have been positive and productive," Vrabel added. "We believe that in order to be successful on and off the field, you have to make good decisions. That includes me. That starts with me. We never want our actions to negatively affect the team. You never want to be the cause of a distraction. Those are conversations and questions that I've addressed with the team, and we'll keep those private."
He concluded by expressing his excitement for the upcoming season and his commitment moving forward.
"I care deeply about this football team, and I'm excited to coach them," Vrabel said. "I'm going to attack each day with humility and focus. What I can promise is that my family, this organization, the team, the staff, the coaches - and most importantly, our fans - will get the best version of me going forward. That's what I know, and I'm excited to do that."
Vrabel will not face any repercussions from the league or the Patriots at this time and appears fully focused on improving the team, beginning Thursday when the first round of the NFL draft gets underway in Pittsburgh.
