Giants Receive Strong Warning on Jordyn Tyson Ahead of NFL Draft

With the NFL Draft arriving on Thursday night, the New York Giants could make noise with fans when they announce who they are selecting at the No. 5 and No. 10 spots.

There are all sorts of wild expectations about what New York could do there, including a recent mock draft suggesting a surprising defensive standout will be their fifth overall pick. However, others believe the Giants could go with another talented wide receiver at the spot.

And they could have several options, with Ohio State’s Carnell Tate considered a highly-talented prospect, and others indicating that Jordyn Tyson is worth selecting higher in the draft order. However, a recent discussion from an NFL on CBS crew brought up reasons for caution when it comes to Tyson.

“Listen, that MetLife turf is unforgiving. I played on it. That wore my hips and my knees down. I've seen plenty of players get injured on this turf. I am not drafting a receiver with injury history Top 5," former NFL cornerback Logan Ryan said.

He admitted that Tyson looked good in a video showing him on a "whip route" and is athletic, but that's not enough.

"I know he could be Odell Beckham Jr. I understand that, but if they draft Jordyn Tyson over Carnell Tate, I'm gonna lose my mind as a former Giant," he said.

In his 10 years in the league, Ryan played for five different squads, including the Giants in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He also played on the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl rings in 2015 and 2017.

Tyson, a 6-foot-2, 203-pound receiver, spent the past three seasons with Arizona State. This past season, he achieved 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns.

In his first year with the Sun Devils, Tyson participated in just three games without a single catch due to injury. He played in 12 last season and then nine games in his final season with Arizona State.

The NFL.com gave him a 6.43 prospect grade and believes he'll "become a good starter within two years." In an interesting mock draft update from ESPN’s NFL insider Peter Schrager on Wednesday, he projects Tyson to the New York Giants, but only at No. 10.

Either way, it seems that Logan Ryan believes it’s a cautionary situation for the Giants, and maybe Tyson isn’t worth the risk, especially after already seeing WR Malik Nabers out this past season with an injury.
