NFL Fans Pushing Dianna Russini To Apologize Tonight
The Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel saga continued on Wednesday night.
More photos of the NFL insider and the New England Patriots head coach leaked online. Page Six of the New York Post published them on Wednesday night. They seem to contradict their earlier quotes.
At first, Russini and Vrabel claimed that the initial Page Six report was very misleading. They claimed they were there with friends and that their interactions were innocent.
However, on Wednesday night, Page Six published another report, again suggesting they were hanging out alone.
"An insider told us that the pair - who are both married to other people - dined together on the morning of March 28, around 10:15 a.m. local time," Page Six reported.
"Multiple eyewitnesses claimed that the two dined alone, which seems to be supported by the pictures we obtained. But sources close to Russini insist that the sports reporter and the NFL coach were joined by a group of friends for the morning meal."
Both Vrabel and Russini initially shot the speculation down.
"The photos don't represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day. Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues," Russini initially said.
Vrabel, who is married with two kids, added: "These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable. This doesn't deserve any further response."
However, on Tuesday, Vrabel released a statement, admitting that he's had "difficult" conversations with his family. Russini, meanwhile, stands by her behavior.
NFL fans pushing Russini to apologize
NFL fans think that Russini needs to say more, with some calling for her to publicly apologize.
"Day 15 of no apology from Dianna Russini. That's legit crazy. Meanwhile, the story just keeps getting worse and worse," Game 7 shared on X.
"If Dianna had just been honest from the beginning I think people would've moved on eventually. This just seems like it's getting worse," one fan added.
"In the back on my mind I was thinking that there were more photos but Page 6 was waiting for things to quite down before dropping more," another fan added.
Russini, meanwhile, has not said anything publicly since her resignation letter.
"Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now - before my current contract expires on June 30. I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career," she said.
"Over a career spanning more than fifteen years in sports journalism - at NBC, ESPN, and The Athletic - I have built a body of work I am proud of. I have broken stories, earned the trust of sources across the league, and been guided by the highest standards of professional conduct. That record speaks for itself.
"I remain grateful to The Athletic and for the extraordinary colleagues with whom I have worked there, for the platform it provided, and for the support you showed me during this difficult time. I wish you nothing but continued success."
