Alex Cora Sends Viral 1-Word Message After Being Fired by Red Sox
In somewhat shocking fashion after a 17-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, the Boston Red Sox made the decision to fire manager Alex Cora after eight seasons with the franchise.
The team was off to a disappointing 10-17 start, and following Saturday's victory, owner John Henry decided to make a major change, also parting ways with five members of Cora's coaching staff.
"Alex Cora led this organization to one of the greatest seasons in Red Sox history in 2018, and for that, and the many years that followed, he will always have our deepest gratitude," Red Sox owner John Henry said in a statement Saturday. "He has had a lasting impact on this team and on this city. He has led on and off the field in so many important ways. These decisions are never easy, but this one is especially difficult given what Alex has meant to the Red Sox since the day he arrived.
"I want to thank Alex, our coaches, and their families for everything they have given to this organization. They have been part of this club in a way that goes beyond the field, and they will always have our respect and gratitude."

Not long after being fired in the middle of a road trip, Cora posted a photo of himself with the five other coaches who were also let go, smiling as they flew home on a plane.
He later followed it up on X with a one-word message that quickly went viral, drawing nearly 500,000 views.
"Happy!" Cora wrote.
Cora was in the second year of a $21.75 million extension, and the team is now expected to turn to Chad Tracy as interim manager moving forward. Tracy has served as manager of Triple-A Worcester since 2022 with the Worcester Red Sox (WooSox).
The Red Sox are currently in last place in the AL East, eight games out of first, and sitting near the bottom of the league-wide standings.
