Trevor Story Raises Concerns After Red Sox Fire Alex Cora

The Boston Red Sox surprised a lot of people by firing manager Alex Cora and several other coaches on Saturday.

Yes, the Red Sox have gotten off to a disappointing start, but moving on from Cora, a World Series-winning manager, at this point in the season is certainly interesting.

On Sunday, Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story had questions following the decision by the franchise, and he doesn't seem thrilled with the direction this team is heading in.

"I mean obviously, it's kind of up in the air what the true direction of the franchise is," Story said, via ESPN. "Some of the best coaches in the world didn't get a fair shot."

"Those are conversations that need to be had," Story said. "They'll be had today and onward going forward, too."

Story, who is in his fifth season with the Red Sox, has only had Cora as his manager during his tenure in Boston.

The former Colorado Rockies shortstop admitted he came to Boston to win, but moves such as firing Cora make him wonder what the future holds for the franchise.

"I came here to win, and I came here to be successful," added Story. "And we had a flash of that last year. We're looking to build on that. Obviously not off to a great start. But yeah, some of the direction needs to be cleared up, in my opinion."

Roman Anthony Admits Surprising Reaction to Cora Firing

Roman Anthony, the young Red Sox star, not only admitted he was surprised, but he placed the blame on himself and the players rather than Cora.

"I don't think anyone really expected it," Anthony said, via ESPN. "At the end of the day, when we take the field, it's on us. It's not AC's job to go out there and do the things that we're expecting to do as players. So, I mean, it's nobody's fault but ours."

For now, it will be Chad Tracy as the interim manager, and he has been the manager at Triple-A Worcester since 2022, so he has familiarity with the organization.

Still, it caught everybody by surprise to see Cora fired, and questions loom large in Boston.
