Red Sox Announce Unfortunate Garrett Crochet Injury News
The Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a brutal start to begin the 2026 MLB season.
Their poor start resulted in manager Alex Cora and several other coaches being fired in a decision that sparked concerns in the clubhouse.
However, the Red Sox have won two out of three with Chad Tracy as the interim manager, so maybe there is some life in this ballclub.
On Wednesday, the Red Sox will finish the three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, but the team announced some unfortunate injury news on ace Garrett Crochet.
"The #RedSox today placed LHP Garrett Crochet on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to April 26) with left shoulder inflammation. To fill his spot, Boston recalled INF/OF Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester," per the official team account.

Crochet was scheduled to pitch on Friday, so this will change the starting rotation for Boston for some time.
While Crochet has been the team's ace in recent years, he has struggled early in 2026. In six starts, he has a 3-3 record with a 6.30 ERA, including a rough start on April 13 against the Minnesota Twins, where he went just 1.2 innings and allowed 10 earned runs.
On Saturday, in Cora's final game as the Red Sox manager, Crochet threw six shutout innings and allowed three hits and just two walks, so there was hope that it was a step in the right direction.
Jake Bennett is a candidate to get a start for Boston if he gets called up from Triple-A Worcester.
With Garrett Crochet landing on the IL, this sets up Jake Bennett for pitching Friday in Boston (or possibly later on this weekend against the Astros).

If it is indeed Friday for Bennett, he and interim manager Chad Tracy would both be making their Fenway Park debuts. https://t.co/PIs8xHwHeg
Crochet Injury is Concerning For Boston
On one hand, Crochet has struggled this season. However, he dazzled in 2025, going 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 32 games in his first season with the franchise.
As of now, the Red Sox have no starter listed for Friday's game against the Houston Astros, but Connelly Early is scheduled to throw Saturday.
Crochet will hopefully miss as little time as possible, meaning he could be back sometime around the second week of May if everything goes according to plan.
