Cabrillo forces Game 3 in NorCal playoff series | College softball
APTOS - The No. 7 seed Cabrillo College softball team stomped No. 10 Cosumnes River 13-4 in Game 2 of the teams' 3C2A NorCal Regional first round playoff series on Saturday to force a decisive third game.
The Sentinel went to press before Game 3 started Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks dropped their opener 10-7 on Friday and but returned with vengeance.
Cabrillo smacked 17 hits in Game 2. Shortstop Ariyah Morgan had four hits, including a pair of triples, five RBI, and scored a run for the Seahawks (31-11 overall), the fourth-place finisher in the Coast Conference,
Seahawks centerfielder Renee Parker had three hits, one RBI, and scored three runs. Second baseman Bailey Fulton had two hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored a run. First baseman Janessa De La Cruz had two hits and scored twice.
Cabrillo's Cameron Llamas had a hit and scored three runs. Nick Powell had two hits and scored a run, and Charileen Pauneto had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run.
Emily Azemar and Imani Black both doubled, drove in a run, and scored a run for Cosumnes River (24-17), the third-place finisher in the Big 8 Conference.
Danielle Keller pitched 4 2/3 innings and earned the win. Xochitl Atayde took the complete-game loss.
On Friday, Cabrillo scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead, but the Hawks responded with three runs in the fourth and stayed ahead for good.
The Seahawks finished with 10 hits. Morgan and right fielder Grace Stryker each had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice for the Seahawks. Kaylen Wingerd had three RBI, and Pauneto had two hits and scored a run. Powell had two hits.
Cosumnes River had 14 hits. Shortstop Charlize Fasula doubled, tripled, drove in a run, and scored twice for the Hawks. Centerfielder Faith Hahn had two hits, three RBI, and scored a run. Azemar had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice. First baseman Nina Najafizadeh had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice. Black and Kaylena Ogle each had two hits and scored a run.
Ogle pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief and picked up the win, and Scarlett Finn pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief for the Seahawks and took the loss.
