Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week: Edgar Gomez, Hill track and field

Andrew Hill runner Edgar Gomez is the Bay Area News Group's boys high school athlete of the week for April 27-May 2.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Gomez had 66.1% of the vote to finish ahead of Bishop O’Dowd golfer Daniel Weiland, who was second at 21.9%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week's recognition.

Gomez, a sophomore, won the 1,600-meter race at the Blossom Valley Athletic League Almaden Valley Division finals with a time of 4:49.67.

Votes by email do not count. Only votes submitted through the online poll on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites will count.
