Six teams from SGV area in Division 1 for CIF-SS softball playoffs

The CIF Southern Section released its softball playoff pairings Saturday, and, as expected, six teams from the San Gabriel Valley area were placed in the prestigious Division 1 bracket.

The CIF-SS uses computer rankings to help determine where teams are placed in the eight 32-team brackets and the seedings. The area teams that landed in Division 1 are: La Mirada, La Habra, California, Glendora, Charter Oak and Los Altos.

Division 1, considered one of the most competitive high school playoff divisions in the country, begins with first-round play Friday.

La Mirada (22-4), which was ranked No. 4 overall before a 9-7 loss to Gahr in its regular-season finale, held its spot in the final rankings and earned the No. 4 seed. The Matadores will be home in the first round against Sunset League champion Los Alamitos (19-8).

Two area teams will square off in the first round in Division 1.

Hacienda League champion Los Altos (20-8) earned a lofty spot in the rankings by playing a tough schedule that included an 8-4 win over JSerra in March. The Conquerors will be on the road against La Habra (21-7), which rallied late in the regular season to share the Crestview League title.

In other first-round Division 1 matchups for SGV area teams:

- Del Rio League champion California (25-4), which was in the Division 2 playoffs the past two years and reached the finals in 2024, will host Ivy League champion Riverside Poly (21-7) in the first round;

- Glendora (23-2-2) is in the D1 playoffs for the first time in more than a decade after finishing the regular season with strong wins over Bonita and Ayala. The Tartans earned a first-round home game against Crestview League co-champion Pacifica of Garden Grove (17-10).

- Charter Oak (19-3), which won the Valle Vista League title and has just four losses over the past two seasons, is in the Division 1 playoffs for a second straight season. The Chargers took an undefeated record into the D1 playoffs last year and lost to Huntington Beach, 8-7, in the first round. The Chargers are hoping for a better outcome when they travel play Palomares League champion Ayala (16-5).

Bonita (20-8), which was on the Division 1 bubble for most of the season, dropped to Division 2 and earned the top seed. The Bearcats will host Sierra Canyon in the first round Thursday.

In other divisions, Montview League runner-up Duarte (14-10) earned the top seed in Division 6 and Azusa (11-9) is the No. 3 seed in Division 7.

Here are all of the first-round matchups for San Gabriel Valley area teams . The games will be Thursday, May 14 or Friday, May 15.
