More than 6,095 runners compete in 16th annual She.is.beautiful Santa Cruz 10K and 5K | Local Roundup

More than 6,095 runners competed in the 16th annual She.is.beautiful Santa Cruz 10K and 5K races on Saturday, including three competing virtually.

Greenfield's Luis Perez took first out of 1,929 runners in the 10K race in 34:01 to repeat as champion. Salinas' Joshua Reed took second in 37:10 and Orinda's Julia Sachdev, the top female, took third in 37:34.

Santa Cruzans Melissa Sosa (38:09) and Sara Teitelbaum (38:12) round out the top five.

Nathan Lorilla, a Carlmont High alum who attends UC Santa Cruz, took first out of 3,894 runners in the 5K race.

East Garrison's Brittany Leuenberger, the first female, took second overall in 17:33. Salinas' Rudy Tovar (17:53) took third, and Santa Cruz's Taylor Glinkowski (18:12) and San Jose's Amanda Ernenwein (18:35) rounded out the top five.

Ripon's Tiffany McBroom (41:13), Santa Cruz's Michelle Fry (49:07), Monterey's Christa Davi (55:13), Santa Cruz's Megan Eaton (57:01), and Fresno's Elizabeth Serna (59:07) made up the top five in the 38-runner 10K Baby Mama race.

Menlo Park's Marissa Ferrante, an Aptos alumna who competed on Stanford University's cross-country, triathlon, and cycling teams, took first in the took first out of 235 runners in the 5K Baby Mama race. She finished in 17:49.

Ferrante was followed across the finish line by Santa Cruzans Claire Gallogly (21:47), Michelle Black (22:01), and Alysha Birss (22:50).

Boys lacrosse

Stevenson 18, at Soquel 5: The Knights, champion of the Pacific Coast Athletic League's Mission Division, dropped their Central Coast Section play-in game against the PCAL Gabilan Division runner-up Pirates on Saturday.

The CCS seeding meeting takes place Sunday.

TJ Kusanovich led the Knights (17-2 overall) with three goals and an assist. Jed Del Favero had a goal and two assists and Daxton Dvorak also scored.

Goalies Barry Lombardi and Daniel Bjorn split time and made a combined 12 saves.

College track and field

Franson Last Chance: UC Santa Cruz junior Erik Dodge took first place in the pole vault at the Franson Last Chance and Multis, held at Azusa Pacific Universtity from Thursday through Saturday. He cleared 15 feet, 5 inches.

High school baseball

At Half Moon Bay 3, Santa Cruz 0: The Cardinals were shut out for the first time this season in their nonleague loss Saturday.

Senior Cameron Fusari had three of the Cardinals' five hits, including a double. Junior Merrick Miller and sophomore Peter Astromoff also had hits.

Cole Giannini had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run for the Cougars (15-9).

Fusari gave up two runs in two innings and took the loss. Junior Tristan Castro earned the complete-game win.

Santa Cruz (13-10, 7-6) plays at repeat Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion Soquel (19-3, 11-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
