NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Reacts To Knicks Making NBA Finals
Knicks fans have been chanting "Let's go Knicks" so loudly over the past 12 hours that you can probably still hear them from the top of the Empire State Building. But how is the news being received in the office of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani?
Speaking to the press this morning, Mamdani was asked if there will be watch parties across the city and how his office will prepare to ensure that such parties are safe. The 34-year-old Mayor was all smiles at the question while declaring what an incredible moment the Knicks had delivered for New York. He then announced that there would be city-wide watch parties.
"People whisper to me in every kind of event you can imagine -- 'Knicks in four.' We're going to have watch parties across the city."
All Smiles for Mamdani
Mamdani has seemingly been on Cloud-9 since last night. After the Knicks closed out the Eastern Conference Finals with a decisive Game 4 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, he took to X and tagged the New York City Sanitation Department, jokingly writing "I'd like to report a sweep."
Mamdani is one of thousands of New Yorkers celebrating right now. For the first time since the turn of the century the Knicks are in the NBA Finals and while they won't be the favorites, their stretch of dominance over these past 11 games has been so incredible that fans have serious reason to believe that they can do it.
As for the players, thanks to their quick win over the Cavs they get a full week to rest and prepare for the Western Conference Champion. The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are tied 2-2 in the series heading into Game 5, so that series is guaranteed to go at least six games and potentially seven.
The Knicks might not have a star as big as Victor Wembanyama or SGA, but there's a very good chance that they'll be better prepared to play competitive with them now.
