Serena Williams Was Asked If She'll Return To Wimbledon This Year
The legendary Serena Williams is officially back on the WTA Tour, but will we see her compete in the 2026 Wimbledon Championships?
Williams, 44, competed in a match this Tuesday for the first time since the 2022 US Open. Although fans want to see her in another singles match, she teamed up with Canada's Victoria Mboko for doubles at the HSBC Championships.
Mboko and Williams kicked off their run at the Queen's Club Championships with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe. There were plenty of moments in the match where Williams turned back the clock, much to the delight of the sellout crowd in attendance.
"I mean, I thought she was moving great," Mboko said. "There was moments in the match where, I think there was that one shot [Williams] hit, you were on the run ... and I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, she's got it.' From my perspective, I feel like it's all great. It was a lot of fun. It was amazing."
Despite her years of experience, Williams admit that she was nervous prior to Tuesday's match at Queen's.
"I was nervous, but I didn't really think about it ... I just thought about having fun, which I did today," Williams said. "I get nervous right before the match, like 30 minutes before ... Then I just let it go."
Will we see Serena at Wimbledon?
Williams' incredible résumé includes seven singles titles at Wimbledon. She also won the doubles title six times with her sister Venus.
After securing a win in her return to the court this Tuesday afternoon, Williams was asked if she'll compete at Wimbledon later this month. She said she's simply taking things "one day at a time."
If Williams' performance on Tuesday was just a sign of things to come, we'd say she's more than capable of competing at the All England Club.
