Chiefs Could Move on From 25-Year-Old Starter: Report

The Kansas City Chiefs have some solid depth at offensive tackle with 10 players at the position currently under contract.

Josh Simmons, who's shown up to offseason OTAs more noticeably bulked up, is expected to be the team's Week 1 starting left tackle, and Kansas City has Jaylon Moore, Esa Pole, and Chukwuebuka Godrick all competing for the right tackle spot.

Then there's rookie Khalil Benson, 2024 second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia, Ethan Driskell, Pete Nygra, and Matt Waletzko all vying for backup spots, seemingly leaving Wanya Morris wanting to find a way out of Kansas City.

"The Chiefs and OT Wanya Morris have agreed to explore trade options, per sources," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on X. "Morris, who has 16 starts in three seasons (11 in 2024), would like the chance to play more and Kansas City has tackle depth."

The 25-year-old Morris started one game last season, 11 games the previous year, and four games as a rookie. Across three seasons, Morris has allowed 62 pressures, 39 hurries, 16 QB hits, and seven sacks while playing 1,042 snaps at left tackle and 86 at right tackle, according to Pro Football Focus.

If the Chiefs are, indeed, shopping Morris, there should be several interested teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Las Vegas Raiders, and New England Patriots.

The Cowboys have Terence Steele manning the right side of their O-line and Tyler Guyton is penciled in as the starter on the left side. But Guyton has been inconsistent since Dallas drafted him, and while rookie Drew Shelton has some upside, getting a proven veteran like Morris could make sense for the Cowboys.

The Texans could use another option at right tackle after trading Tytus Howard this offseason, and the same goes for the Raiders on the left side after parting ways with Stone Forsythe.

The Patriots have Will Campbell and Morgan Moses plus rookie Caleb Lomu vying for the two starting tackle spots, and adding Morris could be a nice insurance plan for a team looking to get back to the Super Bowl.
