Spurs Trying To Stop Knicks Fans From Buying Game 5 Tickets
The San Antonio Spurs are doing everything in their power to prevent the New York Knicks' fan base from taking over Frost Bank Center for Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Since the Knicks are one win away from their first championship since 1973, there are plenty of fans willing to fly to San Antonio to potentially witness a title-clinching victory. However, there's a "No City Slickers" rule in place for Game 5 tickets on Ticketmaster.
"Sales to this event will be restricted to customers residing within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center," the advisory on TicketMaster states. "Orders by residents outside of a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center will be canceled without notice and refunds given."
Ticketmaster warned people that anyone who violates this rule will have their tickets "canceled without notice."
Basically, the Spurs don't want people outside of their market acquiring tickets for Saturday's game. The timing of this decision is interesting to say the least.
It was reported Friday that a good portion of the people who are purchasing Game 5 tickets are from New York and New Jersey.
Knicks fans aren't thrilled about it.
As you'd imagine, Knicks fans aired out their complaints about the Spurs and their new strategy for ticket sales.
"It's okay. Knick fans will buy tickets on the secondary market," one fan replied. "Also, it is quite embarrassing if the Spurs actually have tickets left this late. Local ticket brokers should buy the tickets up and resell them to Knick fans at a premium.
"Every team that did this made it worse on the home team lol," a second fan commented. "Because that just gets the word out. And the NYC area collectively buys out the secondary market."
"Doesn't matter, doesn't work. Every team this playoffs has tried to do it," another fan said. "Knicks fans own the resale market. If they didn't want their own fans to resell, they shouldn't have blown a 29 point lead with a chance to sell the series."
Game 5 will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET this Saturday. It'll be televised on ABC.
