Netherlands vs Japan Lineups, Score, Live Streaming, How and Where to Watch On TV In USA & Other Countries
The Netherlands and Japan begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign when they meet in Dallas on Sunday for a Group F match. Sweden and Tunisia are the other two teams in the group.
The Dutch arrive at the tournament with an impressive World Cup history having reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar before being eliminated by Argentina on penalties.
Their record in the sport's biggest stage also includes three runners-up positions, more than any other nation without winning the tournament with their most recent appearance in the final coming in 2010 when they lost to Spain. (They also reached the final in 1974 and 1978.)
Another encouraging statistic for Ronald Koeman's side is their unbeaten run in World Cup group-stage matches. Oranje have not lost a group game since 1994 and are unbeaten in their last 16 World Cup group fixtures.
However, the team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Algeria in a warm-up match before the World Cup.
Japan, meanwhile, are appearing in their eighth consecutive World Cup. Despite being one of Asia's most successful national teams, they have never gone beyond the Round of 16 having reached that stage in 2002, 2010, 2018 and 2022.
On their way to this year's World Cup, The Samurai Blue have produced several impressive results which included a 3-2 win over BrazilIn October 2025 and a 1-0 victory over England in March 2026.
Japan also had memorable performances at the 2022 World Cup, where they defeated both Germany and Spain during the group stage.
