Rangers Announce Discouraging Corey Seager News

The Texas Rangers will be without their starting shortstop again.

On Monday, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker announced that Corey Seager is being placed on the 7-day concussion injured list. Infielder Josh Smith has been reinstated from the 10-day IL.

Seager suffered this concussion on Thursday after a collision at home plate with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen. Although Seager remained in the game and proceeded to hit a home run, he sat out of the Rangers' entire weekend series against the Boston Red Sox.

The Rangers have now made the decision to put Seager on the IL.

This is Seager's second stint on the IL this season. He previously missed three weeks of action due to lower back inflammation. Seager had just returned from the shelf on June 4 only to go back on the IL after only five games played.

It has been a brutal season for Seager both injury-wise and offensively. In 47 games, he's slashing a mere .186/.284/.373 with a .657 OPS, nine home runs and 24 RBI.

Seager has dealt with injury problems over the last several seasons and has not played more than 123 games in a campaign since 2022.

The 32-year-old hasn't been putting up his usual elite numbers this season and he now has another obstacle to overcome with the concussion.

The hope is that his symptoms will subside and he will be able to return after the seven days. But the Rangers have yet to announce a timeline for Seager as concussions can be tricky to recover from.

The Rangers are 35-36 on the season and in third place in the American League West division. They're only one game back of the first place Seattle Mariners and are tied with the Athletics for the third and final Wild Card spot in the AL.
