Eagles Linked to Former MVP QB to Replace Jalen Hurts
Few would argue that Jalen Hurts is entering 2026 on the hot seat.
The Philadelphia Eagles got rid of one distraction in wide receiver A.J. Brown, who was traded to the New England Patriots back on June 1, and some believe Hurts could be on his way out if he fails to deliver another long playoff run in 2026.
It doesn't help his case that five anonymous sources close to the Eagles admitted to ESPN over the summer that the team essentially blamed Hurts for most, if not all of the team's shortcomings last season.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio even reported that Hurts could be traded next offseason if he fails to find his post-2022 form when he threw for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions and finished second in MVP voting.
The team's interest in potentially moving on from Hurts could prompt a move as soon as next season, according to NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
"The Eagles unquestionably are…willing to do things perhaps some other regimes might view as overly aggressive or cutthroat to accomplish it," La Canfora wrote. "While Hurts has delivered repeatedly in some huge playoff spots, including a Super Bowl, the offense has also oscillated wildly in other years, and Hurts has been unwilling to make big-time throws and push the ball into traffic, which has compounded some locker room issues.
"It's led to a strong sense around the league that, as difficult as it can be to find a caliber of quarterback who can win big in the postseason, the Eagles will be willing to do whatever is possible if need be. There is a chance that a two-time MVP like Lamar Jackson becomes available in trade, and the 2027 quarterback draft class is earning strong early reviews, too."
La Canfora also notes that one NFL executive believes if Hurts struggles in 2026, a possible Jackson trade could become a reality given general manager Howie Roseman's impatience when it comes to making major roster moves.
"Howie isn't just going to sit on his hands if he thinks there are better options," an anonymous NFL exec told La Canfora. "We all know that. He's going to stay as flexible as possible (at QB)."
While it's tough to see the Ravens moving Jackson, a two-time MVP who's carried the team's offense for years, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Baltimore was rumored to be exploring trade options for Jackson this offseason, and the team could still be open to moving him for the right price.
