Blue Jays Announce Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Move Before Red Sox Game

The Toronto Blue Jays return to the field on Tuesday night against divisional rivals, the Boston Red Sox. Toronto was without first basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr., who missed the final two games against the New York Yankees because of lower back tightness. The Blue Jays dropped both games in his absence, falling to 34-38 on the season.

While the five-time All-Star has not produced at his usual level this season, he remains one of the Blue Jays' most reliable players and the club continues to count on him.

Guerrero experienced discomfort on Friday and reported the issue to manager John Schneider.

Fortunately for Toronto, the injury never appeared serious enough to require an injured-list stint. Ahead of Tuesday's game, the club announced that Guerrero is back in the lineup.

On Sunday, Schneider revealed that Guerrero's condition had improved and noted that the slugger likely would have been available to hit if the situation demanded it late in Sunday's game. Monday's scheduled off day provided additional recovery time before the club traveled to Boston.

The Blue Jays need Guerrero healthy, even amid what has been a rough start to the season by his standards. Through 68 games, the 27-year-old is batting .280 with three home runs, 27 RBIs, and a .738 OPS. Toronto signed Guerrero to a 14-year, $500 million extension last year and will be banking on him to return to his best.

The Blue Jays open their series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
