Is Cristiano Ronaldo Playing Tonight for Portugal vs. DR Congo at the World Cup?

Portugal starts their 2026 World Cup Journey in Group K at NRG Stadium knowing that 3 points could go a long way toward securing top spot in a group that also includes Colombia and Uzbekistan.

While Portugal is the match as clear favorites, much of the attention will naturally be on Ronaldo. This tournament might be his final World Cup appearance, giving him the chance to chase the one major trophy missing from his collection.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has already conquered European football with Portugal, lifting both the European Championship and Nations League trophies. The World Cup, however, remains the ultimate prize that has eluded him throughout his international career.

Tonight's match for Portugal is the beginning of another World Cup campaign built around expectations of being one of the favourite teams to win it all. DR Congo on the other hand are appearing at the World Cup for the first time in 52 years, having last qualified in 1974 when the nation competed as Zaire.

Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Start for Portugal Against DR Congo

Ronaldo is fully fit and expected to start up front for Portugal tonight.

The veteran striker is in line to make his 229th appearance for the national team, extending his record as the most-capped player in men's international football. He is expected to be supported by a talented midfield featuring Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha, two players who have become increasingly important to Portugal's attacking play.

Portugal do have one notable concern heading into the match. Manchester City defender Rúben Dias is reportedly unavailable after picking up a knock, meaning Sporting CP centre-back Gonçalo Inácio is expected to step into the starting lineup.

Even with that setback, Martínez still has one of the deepest squads in the tournament at his disposal.
