New York Police Issue Safety Warning For Knicks Championship Parade

For the first time since 1973, the New York Knicks are officially NBA champions. The beloved franchise is set to celebrate their 2026 season on Thursday with a ticker-tape parade.

The Knicks had a historic playoff run, outscoring their opponents by 14.9 points per game. If they weren't blowing out their opponents in the postseason, they were pulling off incredible comebacks. In fact, Mike Brown's squad went 6-2 in games where they trailed by double-digits.

Suffice to say, the Knicks will receive a hero's welcome this Thursday as they make their way from Battery Park to City Hall.

"It will be the first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history, where New Yorkers will be able to celebrate a moment that has feels like we've waited an entire lifetime for because when it comes to people my age and a little bit older, we have," NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said. "There have been so many heartbreaks, so many near misses, so many years, every year where we've told ourselves it's the year and for it to actually happen now, there's nothing more we can ask for as New Yorkers."

Knicks fans encouraged to party responsibly.

With the parade roughly 24 hours away, the New York Police Department has issued a safety memo for all those who'll be in attendance.

"We want everyone to be safe and enjoy this historic moment," the NYPD said. "Everyone attending the parade will be screened. No bags will be allowed. Pens will open at 6am. We encourage attendees to be there early."

The following items won't be allowed at Thursday's parade:

  • Backpacks
  • Bats/batons
  • Bicycles or scooters
  • Chairs
  • Coolers
  • Drones
  • Glass or metal water bottles
  • Pets
  • Strollers
  • Umbrellas
  • Weapons

Hopefully, fans don't go over the top with their antics during Thursday's parade.

Congratulations to the Knicks on an exceptional playoff run.
