Antonio Freeman's Son Alex Scores Amazing Goal vs. Australia in World Cup Match

With Father's Day coming up on Sunday, it's fair to say that the Freeman family will have all kinds of bragging rights around the barbecue.

That's because Alex Freeman, defender for the USA Men's National Team, scored a pivotal goal in Friday's match against Australia in World Cup action at Seattle Stadium.

The goal put the U.S. up 2-0 as they try to advance to the knockout round.

It's not a surprise that Freeman is making an impact in this match. He made his USMNT debut on June 7, 2025, vs. Türkiye in Columbus at 20 years, 303 days, becoming the youngest player to earn a first cap under head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He started all six matches during the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, becoming the youngest player to make six consecutive starts for the USMNT in a single tournament. And he finished his 2025 campaign with 13 USMNT caps, nominated for 2025 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year for his performances.

A rather remarkable run, and Freeman probably has his father, Antonio, to thank for some of that athletic prowess.

Antonio Freeman, selected in the third round of the 1995 draft by the Green Bay Packers out of Virginia Tech, totaled 477 catches on 875 targets in a nine-year career for Green Bay (eight seasons) and the Philadelphia Eagles (one season) for 7,251 yards and 61 touchdowns. The elder Freeman led the NFL in receiving yards in 1998 with 1,424. He also scored an 81-yard touchdown on a pass from Brett Favre in the Packers' 35-21 Super Bowl XXXI win over the New England Patriots on Jan. 26th, 1997.

Recently, Antonio Freeman said that his son winning the World Cup would be a bigger deal for him than any Super Bowl win.

"It's no comparison," Freeman told TMZ Sports. "I mean, and to be honest, to reach the platform that he's reached, my Super Bowl was very special. But there's still no comparison to where he is right now as a 21-year-old, selected as one of the 26 best in the United States of America to represent your team, something I never got a chance to do.

"He's among another echelon of the elite. And if they were to do it this time around, it would be a major, major upset. It would be something special."

So far, so good when it comes to that journey.
