Chiefs Have Opportunity for Reunion With Star WR Looking for Job
There has been chatter this offseason that the Kansas City Chiefs could look to boost their receiver corps with a veteran before the start of the regular season.
The Chiefs are set to have Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton at receiver, but there are questions about the group after a down season in 2025 and Rice’s off-the-field issues.
Stefon Diggs has been a popular name after he led the New England Patriots in receiving last season, helping quarterback Drake Maye make a Super Bowl appearance in his second season.

Kansas City could opt for a reunion with DeAndre Hopkins.
During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday, the 2013 first-round pick by the Houston Texans said he’s not in a rush to play for a team in 2026, but hopes to join a “competitor if that time came” at some point in the regular season. He’s not in a rush to start in Week 1 because he’s not looking for a contract extension in the future.
“Like I said, man, I still got a lot of ball left,” Hopkins said. “But it’s not a situation I’m sitting here trying to force or go out and be the regular-season superstar because that’s for the young guys, man. That’s for the people that they want to develop and give those contracts to looking at the future.
“I know in my position, I’m a utility guy. I’m a special situation kind of guy. I can go out there and beat anybody one-on-one at any time, but hey, as of lately, I’ve been a third-down guy. I wasn’t used in the red zone last year (with the Baltimore Ravens). But hey (on) third down, they’re gonna put D-Hop in, they’re gonna come to me. I don’t think that’ll change anytime soon.”
Hopkins, 34, is a five-time All-Pro with 1,006 receptions, 13,295 yards receiving and 85 touchdowns during his 13 seasons in the league. His last 1,000-plus yards receiving campaign came with the Tennessee Titans in 2023.
The Titans traded Hopkins to the Chiefs in 2024. He appeared in 10 games and started five for Kansas City, recording 41 receptions for 437 yards and four touchdowns. He scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
As he did in 2024, Hopkins could join the Chiefs later on in the regular season and give quarterback Patrick Mahomes a boost to make a postseason run this year.
