Seattle Seahawks' Top Bidders Include 49ers, Lakers Minority Owners
The Seattle Seahawks are looking for a new owner, and according the latest report from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, some of the team's top expected bidders are pretty high-profile names.
The first round of bids for the Seahawks' new ownership were due on Monday, and some of the top interested parties include San Francisco 49ers minority owner Vinod Khosla, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers minority owner Todd Boehly, who's also chairman of the Chelsea Football Club, and Boston Celtics alternate governors Wyc Grousbeck and Aditya Mittal.
The reigning world champions were put up for sale back on Feb. 18 - 10 days after Seattle's 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX - because of late owner Paul Allen's wishes to have his assets liquified and donated to philanthropic ventures.
It was speculated around the time of the Super Bowl that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was interested in bidding on the team, however, he's since made it known he's not interested in purchasing the team.
Ben Horney of Front Office Sports reported back in April that Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and former Apple CEO Tim Cook could have potential interest in buying the team, but that speculation has since cooled down as well.
When the Seahawks are sold, they're expected to have between $9 billion and $10 billion sale price.
Seattle currently has the 14th-highest valuation of any NFL team at $6.7 billion, according to Forbes. The team's revenue for last season was approximately $624 million with an operating revenue of $143 million.
Any sale of the club would require a three-fourths majority approval in a vote of the rest of the league owners.
