Red Sox Dealing With Travel Disaster Ahead of Mets Series
This isn't ideal for the red-hot Boston Red Sox.
As of Friday afternoon, the Red Sox's flight from Chicago hadn't taken off for New York ahead of their 7:15 pm ET series opener tonight against the Mets at Citi Field, per Tim Healey of The Boston Globe.
The Red Sox were dealing with "multiple plane issues," which is why they were stuck in Chicago following their series with the White Sox.
Luckily, the Red Sox finally took off around 3 pm ET, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. The other good news is that they're set to land shortly before 5 pm ET, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
LaGuardia Airport is right next to Citi Field in Flushing, Queens. However, the Red Sox will be cutting it close with just over two hours to spare before first pitch.
The Red Sox and Mets have games scheduled for tonight, Saturday at 4:10 pm ET and Sunday at 1:40 pm ET.
The Red Sox are currently in the midst of a six-game win streak. They have won 11 of their last 13 games.

As a result, Boston is just 2.5 games out of the third and final Wild Card spot in a weak American League.
The Red Sox appeared destined to be sellers, but now not so fast. If Boston can keep up their winning ways, they could wind up buying ahead of the August 3 MLB trade deadline.
They will also hopefully get star ace Garrett Crochet and outfielder Roman Anthony back from the injured list sometime after the All-Star break to boost their roster. However, there are no timetables set on either player as of this date.
