Surdich on Bowling: Back to fall league special on ball rejuvenator
The manufacturer of the NuBall rejuvenator is offering bowlers a special purchase during fall league start-up.
You can purchase the rejuvenator from Salmon Creek Bowling Products for $135, which includes free shipping through the end of September. NuBall brings back new life to your bowling ball by removing oil and dirt with heat that is circulated in an enclosed chamber. The oil comes to the surface, where it can be easily wiped off. The process takes one hour.
An adjustable thermostat heats the ball uniformly and safely. No more putting your ball outside in the sun, with a chance that it could crack. How about the bowler in Modesto who put his ball in the oven and forgot about it, came back later and it was extra crispy.
You can order online at www.scbp.biz or call 971-238-2695 to get this offer.
Several of our association members have the unit; I am one of them. Keeps your ball lasting longer with more traction on the lanes.
Monday night scratch trio – The summer scratch league had 14 teams with a total payout of more than $4,980.
Taking home good paychecks were, in first place, Tom McBride, Roger Ross and Joe McBride with $325 each; in second, Miranda Lewis, Jerry Hill and Justin Decker with $235; in third, Brad DeHart, Sandy Alvara and Cam Clemens with $200; in fourth, Patty Harrell, Keith Docherty and Casey McFarlin with $160; and in fifth, Raul Soria, Kevin Heil and Jesse Ramirez with $125. The fund from sixth to 14th ran $100 to $50.
High averages in the league were Joe McBride with a 180 and Patty Harrell with a 145. In 14 weeks, only six 600 series were rolled. It was a tough scoring league.
McHenry senior no-tap – Several locals placed Friday in the Summer’s End Senior 9-pin No-Tap Mini-Tourney at McHenry Bowl in Modesto. Taking a few bucks in the high-game pots were Karen Hunter, Keith Hunter, Kim Heller and yours truly. Heller came back and placed in the women’s overall series with a 794.
Weber’s stats lead to award – Pete Weber won the PBA50 Player of the Year honor for 2015. Weber had never won a PBA POY, even though he’s a Hall of Famer with 37 PBA tour titles and nearly $4 million in career earnings.
Weber’s stats proved he deserved the award. He had a 227.82 average for 327 games, edging Parker Bohn III’s 227.54 average. In earnings, Weber had $36,875, topping Amleto Monacelli with $33,675. In competition points, Weber had 239,964 to Mike Scroggins’ 207,108. Weber, 53, won just once this season but cashed in all 10 events and did well in the PBA50 Majors.
Manteca’s Silva in PBA50 – It looks as if Ed Silva was going for broke while trying his luck in PBA50, Super Senior and regional tournaments in the east and midwest.
Silva placed fourth and made $2,000 in the PBA50 DeHayes Insurance Championship last month in Fort Wayne, Ind. In the opening match of the stepladder finals, he edged Bohn III 186-184. Silva lost to eventual tournament winner Mike Scroggins 227-217 in the next match.
Silva is a regular in Yosemite Lanes’ monthly scratch 6-gamer in Modesto.
