Stone Ridge Christian volleyball falls in NorCal playoffs

The Stone Ridge Christian volleyball team saw its season end with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-16 loss to top seed San Francisco Waldorf in the NorCal Regional Division VI playoffs Saturday night in San Francisco.

The Knights were led by Justine De Jager’s five kills and Sarah Jordan’s three blocks. Libero Ellie Ann Vander Dussen had 22 digs.

Stone Ridge Christian finished the season with a 21-12 record and was the Division VI runner-up in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

Cross country

Ambriz 29th at state meet Merced senior Daniel Ambriz placed 29th in the Division II boys race at the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Ambriz, the Division II subsection and section champ, crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 48 seconds.

Women’s basketball

UC Merced 89, Cal Tech 49 in Pasadena – Shelby Howard’s 22 points, eight assists and four steals helped the Bobcats (1-7) earn the first win of the Sarah Hopkins-Chery era.

Courtney Danna and Aubrey Hayes each scored 13 for UC Merced.

Boys basketball

El Capitan 71, Golden Valley 65 in Merced – Isaiah Knott scored six of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter and James Sellers (19 points) drained four three-pointers as the Gauchos opened the season with a win.

Dave Pelayo (20 points) and Sahill Malhi (12) paced the Cougars (0-1).
