Surdich on Bowling: City Championships scores and payouts

The following is a list of winners from the recent 70th City Championships at Bellevue Bowl in each division, with handicap score and payout:

Open team: Castle Knights (Tom McBride, Jay Carincross, Ryan Sziraki and Joseph McBride), 3,018, $341. Open doubles: Dawn and Joey Fernandez, 1,512, $197. Open singles: Joey Fernandez, 800, $100. Open all-events handicap: Joseph McBride, 2,414, $194. Open all-events scratch: Dennis Gray, 2,026, $120. Women’s team: Bowlin Kinda Girls (Kim Deathriadge, Julie Wescott, Julie Egleston and LaDonna Stone), 1,979, $132. Women’s doubles: Egleston and Stone, 1,512, $110. Women’s singles: Kim Barcellos, 753, $64. Women’s all-events handicap: Stone, 2,127, $100.

Hall of Fame dinner – The Merced County Hall of Fame has been receiving prizes for its raffle and auction for our annual dinner to honor scholarship winners and 2016 Hall of Fame inductees. The dinner is April 16 at the Atwater Community Center.

The prizes include five bowling balls, four baskets filled with goodies and a couple of special baskets from Delta Sierra Beverage in Modesto; a PBA pin autographed by several bowlers, including Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III, Jason Couch and Dick Allen, courtesy of Janay Haggerty, PBA director of community relations/events; patio furniture, house decorations and dinners in the Merced and Atwater area; and a special raffle for two 40-inch televisions.

Tickets for the dinner are $20 and are on sale at the desk at Bellevue Bowl and from all association directors.

Mother Lode 500 Scotch Doubles – Mark your calendar for April 9 for the Scotch Doubles, hosted by the Mother Lode 500 Club at Black Oak Lanes in Tuolumne. The event starts at 1 p.m.

Teams can consist of any current USBC member. You’ll roll four games on one pair of lanes. Your highest average as of May 1, 2015, will be used. The scotch doubles format will be used with bowler one leading off in the first and third games and bowler two leading off in the second and fourth games.

Entry fee is $35 per team, and forms are available at Bellevue Bowl.

Yosemite Lanes senior no-tap – Gustine residents Kim and Bob Heller placed in the monthly 50-and-older no-tap at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto last Friday. The center has men’s and women’s divisions in high-game pot and total series. Kim took first-place money in the first game with a scratch 264, and Bob placed second in the second game with a 255 scratch.

The next 9-pin no-tap will be April 29 at 1 p.m. with a $13 entry fee. Coffee is furnished for seniors.

Remember when – The Century Women’s league had Greda Hise with a 170/487, Dotti Herrod with a 162/533 and Dee Eldredge with a 154/487, according to the Merced/Atwater Bowling News. ... Season-high games for the Merced Bowling Association in 1976 were 300s for Lloyd Armstrong, Fred Nunes and Anderson Davis with one each and Ken Romer with two. ... The board of directors for the association in 1969-70 consisted of Forist Harris, Lumie Vyboney, Don Surdich, John E. Graves and Tom Ragsdale. ... In the third annual Gateway Doubles Tournament at Century Bowl, Joe Alkas and Tom Carter won $14 for 35th place.
