Merced High Quarterback Club to host annual Golf Classic
The Merced High Quarterback Club will host its ninth annual Golf Classic on June 6 at Merced Golf and Country Club.
The tournament, which begins at 11 a.m., is a four-player scramble with a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $100 per player and $400 per four-man team.

Pro wrestling coming to Merced – Fighting Spirit Pro will hold a fundraising event for the Merced Bears Wrestling Club at the Merced High gym on June 7.
The main event will pit FSP world heavyweight champion Jeff Cobb against Pentagón Jr. for the title. The event also features current Lucha Underground and former WWE superstar Brian Cage and the “God of War” J.R. Kratos.
There will be at least seven bouts on the card, including a Survive & Conquer Rumble match, women’s wrestling and local superstars Marcus Eriks of Merced and Atwater’s Johnny Butabi in a winner-take-all match.
Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased by calling 209-910-3377 or visiting FightingSpiritPro.com. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7. Tickets also will be available at the door.
Nate Costa to host QB, youth camps in Hilmar – Former Hilmar High School and University of Oregon quarterback Nate Costa will host a high school quarterback three-day camp June 20-22 at Hilmar High. The camp will run 5-7 p.m. each day.
The camp is open to quarterbacks entering ninth through 12th grades and will include classroom time devoted to pre- and post-snap routines, coverage recognition, throwing mechanics and recruiting knowledge. Field work will include throwing mechanics, footwork, out-of-pocket movement and throwing on the run, play-action mechanics and zone-read mechanics.
The camp is non-contact, and Costa will be assisted by prominent Central Valley coaches.
The cost is $105, and participation will be limited to 30 quarterbacks. Registration closes June 17.
The youth camp also runs June 20-22 at Hilmar High from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and is open to boys and girls entering third through eighth grades. There are no skill restrictions.
The emphasis will be on football fundamentals and skill development, including running technique and athletic improvement.
College, high school and youth-level coaches will serve as instructors.
The camp is limited to 100 athletes and costs $75. Players who register by June 6 will receive the official camp shirt on the first day of camp. Registration will be accepted through June 17.
