Jesus Haro wins third consecutive national youth boxing title
Jesus Haro became a three-time National Silver Gloves champion at the national tournament in Independence, Mo., earlier this month.
The 12-year-old Hoover Middle School student defeated Tavion Alpough of Texas in the final match.
Merced’s David Avalos finished second in the tournament. Avalos, 12, defeated Robert Thomas from Cincinnati in the semifinals and then lost a 2-1 decision to Keith Torres of New York.
Jacob and Angel Chavez of Livingston also competed in the tournament. Angel, 13, reached the semifinals before losing. Jacob, 11, lost in the first round.
