Castro tops 1,000 career points in UC Merced’s win over Pacific Union

Christina Castro scored 25 points to lead the UC Merced women’s basketball team to a 75-35 win over Pacific Union College on Saturday night at home.

The senior guard surpassed 1,000 career points on the night, becoming the second UC Merced player to accomplish that feat.

Castro made 7 3-pointers on the night as the Bobcats made 15 from beyond the arc as a team.

Aubrey Haze and Mia Belvin added 12 points each for UC Merced (14-7, 6-1 California Pacific Conference).

Men’s Basketball

Pacific Union 61, UC Merced 52 in Merced – The Bobcats lost despite a strong performance from sophomore guard Ryan Haywood, who finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Rae Hubbard led Pacific Union with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats dropped to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in the California Pacific Conference.
