Merced College football rallies late to win conference opener at San Jose City College
The Merced College football team outscored San Jose City College 14-0 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 35-27 win on Saturday afternoon in San Jose in the American Golden Coast Conference opener.
Blue Devils quarterback Ryan Kraft connected with receiver Ezra Morales for a 4-yard touchdown pass to give MC the lead at 28-27 with 14 minutes and 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Merced College running back Justin Incaprera tacked on his second touchdown of the game on a 13-yard run to extend the lead to 35-27 with 1:35 left in the game.
Incaprera finished with 135 yards rushing and the two scores on 23 carries.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-3 overall.
The Blue Devils opened up a 21-7 lead in the first half with the help of a 32-yard interception return by defensive back Youlas Dickson.
It was one of five turnovers forced by the Blue Devils, including two other interceptions by Alfonso Gary and Rodney Winzer. Linebacker Cody Chapman led the MC defense with 14 tackles.
Kraft found Dasani Tate for a 7-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday at home against Montery Peninsula at 1 p.m.
