Merced College men’s water polo headed to NorCals after second-place finish
The Merced College men’s water polo team finished as runner-up in the Coast Conference Tournament with a 3-1 record.
The Blue Devils (18-13) lost to league champion West Valley 20-3 but bounced back with a 12-6 victory over Cabrillo. The second-place showing helped Merced secure the No. 5 seed in the NorCal Championships on Friday and Saturday at American River College in Sacramento.
Women’s basketball
Monterey Peninsula 62, Merced 50 in Stockton – The Lady Devils went just 9 of 20 from the free throw line and surrendered seven 3-pointers in a loss at the San Joaquin Delta Tournament.
Mele Tupouata led Merced (0-2) with 15 points and Tekerra Borden scored 12.
Men’s soccer
UC Merced 7, Cal Maritime 0 in Merced – Cody Golbad, Brian Chongtoua and Derick Zamora each had a goal and an assist, as six different Bobcats (12-5, 9-3 California Pacific Conference) found the back of the net against the Keelhaulers (2-13, 2-10) in the regular-season finale.
The win helped UCM secure a share of the first regular-season title in school history and give the Bobcats a top seed for this week’s Cal Pac Tournament.
