Cumberland single finishes off Blue Devil rally
Two days after the Merced College baseball team allowed Reedley to steal a game in the bottom of the ninth, it was the Blue Devils’ turn for a late rally.
Trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh, Joseph Salmeri tied the game by beating out an infield single. Ryan Cumberland (2 for 4) followed with a two-run single that put MC up for good in a 4-3 victory at Blue Devil Field on Thursday night.
The victory keeps the Blue Devils (11-6, 6-2) tied for second place in the Central Valley Conference and a game back of first-place Fresno City.
Blake Cederlind tossed an inning of relief to pick up his first collegiate win and Brandon Adame bounced right back from Tuesday’s loss to pick up his third save of the season.
