GV soccer shares the wealth in Patterson rout
The Golden Valley girls soccer team returns no shortage of offensive firepower.
The Cougars reached the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II quarterfinals a year ago and bring back five of their top six scorers from that team.
GV showed off that offensive depth on Thursday afternoon with six different players finding the back of the net in an 8-1 rout of Patterson at Veterans Stadium.
Junior striker Megan Pust led the onslaught, netting two goals and setting up two more. Lilly Meza also scored twice, while Justyne Sanchez and Brandy Cervantes each chipped in a goal and two assists. The Cougars (6-0-2) have now outscored opponents 27-2 on the young season.
Goalkeeper Kristina Manilay made one save in the victory.
Merced 4, El Capitan 0 in Merced – Carris Burgess had a goal and an assist in the second half and Anisa Saechao added a pair of helpers as the Bears (6-2-1) pulled away from the Gauchos (0-6) after the break.
The Merced defense recorded its fifth shutout in nine games on the season.
