Fresno State has named a search committee to interview candidates and help President Joseph Castro select a new athletic director.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Lynnette Zelezny chairs the 15-member committee. It also includes Fresno State’s interim co-ADs, Cynthia Mason and Steve Robertello; community representatives Christopher Morse, Brian Panish and Vinci Ricchuiti; faculty members Dawn Lewis, Juan Carlos Gonzalez and Scott Sailor; men’s basketball coach Rodney Terry and swimming and diving coach Jeanne Fleck; athletics communications staff member Stephen Trembley; student Zach Contreras; and non-voting members Mike Dunn and Michelle Nelson.
Castro named Zelezny, Matson, Morse, Panish and Ricchuiti to the commitee, while Lewis and Gonzalez were chosen by the school’s Academic Senate. Sailor chairs Fresno State’s kinesiology department. The two coaches and Trembley were randomly selected among their peers. Contreras was chosen by Associated Students, Inc.
The university has retained a search firm, DHR International of Chicago, which will be paid $70,000 from non-state funds. Castro has said he plans to hire Fresno State’s next AD by the December holidays with the new person likely coming aboard early in 2015.
Fresno State’s previous AD, Thomas Boeh, was reassigned Aug. 12 to a new position as Castro’s special assistant following an eight-year tenure.
