UC Merced basketball player honored by conference. It’s the first time ever
UC Merced women’s basketball standout Nicole Lukito made history for the Bobcats this week.
Lukito, a junior forward from Fremont, averaged 17 points and 9.5 rebounds in leading UC Merced to a 2-0 record on a road trip to Hawaii.
For the performances, Lukito was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
She is the first UC Merced women’s basketball player to earn a CCAA Player of the Week award, the conference said.
Lukito posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 67-57 win at Hawaii Pacific on Friday. She followed it up with 12 points and six rebounds in a 66-60 win over Chaminade.
Lukto ranks sixth in the CCAA in scoring, with 16.3 points a game, and leads the conference in rebounding, with an average of 13.8.
UC Merced (3-1) plays back-to-back games at No. 22 Alaska-Anchorage on Friday and Saturday.
The Bobcats next play at home against Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
