Another noteworthy honor for UC Merced men’s basketball standout
The honors continue to roll in for UC Merced men’s basketball player Elijah Charles.
Charles, who earlier this month was named a first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection, is UC Merced’s first-ever NCAA Division II All-Region selection.
Charles was named to the second team All-Region squad after his senior season for the Bobcats, the first at the Division II level for UC Merced.
Charles, a 6-foot-10-inch Los Angeles native, nearly averaged a double-double last season. He scored 15.9 points a game and recorded a league-leading 9.9 rebounds a game.
He also led the CCAA with a .627 field goal percentage and finished third with 31 blocks. He was named the conference’s Player of the Week on Feb. 24.
Charles played at South Carolina State before coming to UC Merced.
