Prep swimming roundup: Atwater boys, girls top Golden Valley

Nathan Monier delivered victories in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events to help the Atwater High School boys swimming team pick up its first Central California Conference win of the season.

The Falcons defeated host Golden Valley 122-56 on Thursday afternoon.

Blake Brigham (200 freestyle), Alex Acosta (100 butterfly), Dalton Hoofard (500 freestyle) and Brandon Pimentel (100 backstroke) all won events for Atwater (1-3 CCC).

Cameron Hoppe picked up a pair of wins for the Cougars (0-4) in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Merced 112, Turlock 57 in Turlock – The Bears improved to 4-0 in the CCC with double winners Josh Fluetsch (200 and 100 freestyle), Abraham Santana (50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke) and Brandon Villegas (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke).

Pitman 101, Buhach Colony 82 in Atwater – Paul Olano won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for the Thunder.

Girls

Atwater 87, Golden Valley 82 in Merced – The Falcons (1-3) were powered by Nicole Goodnight (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Kirsten Knobloch (200 individual medley, 500 freestyle) and Hannah van Warmerdam (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke).

Merced 96, Turlock 73 in Turlock – Laurel Carpenter (200 individual medley) and Savannah Hall (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle) each were double winners for the Bears (4-0 CCC).

Pitman 106, Buhach Colony 45 in Atwater – Gwynn McBride recorded wins in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Thunder.
