Sometimes, it just isn’t your day.

That was the case for the Los Banos High School baseball team Tuesday, as the Tigers struggled at the plate and committed four errors in a 9-0 loss to San Leandro on the second day of the 56th annual Fran Oneto/Atwater-Winton Lions Easter Tournament at Firemen’s Memorial Ballpark.

“Most of the guys weren’t focused,” said Los Banos senior Alec Barcellos. “It’s spring break, and I think guys’ heads were on something else besides baseball.”

The Pirates capitalized, scoring a run each in the first and second innings without getting a hit. Bradley Beesley led off the first with a walk, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch to give San Leandro a 1-0 lead.

Jarren Omololu drew a leadoff walk in the second and worked his way around the bases before scoring on an error.

The Tigers (10-5-1) struggled to cover bases on steal attempts, missed pickoff attempts and made overthrows from the outfield.

“I know the coaching staff is a little frustrated because we can teach baseball,” Los Banos coach Pat Fuentes said. “We can teach a swing. We can help field ground balls, but when it comes to (effort), it’s up to the player.”

Augusto Pineda and Bryan Perez combined on a seven-hit shutout for the Pirates. Pineda pitched six innings, finishing with five strikeouts and one walk. Michael Hidalgo singled twice and drove in three runs for San Leandro.

Barcellos and Tyler Wilson each had two hits for Los Banos.

“We aren’t going to panic,” Fuentes said. “We’ll work (today) at practice and see who we play Thursday. We’ll try to start the game off strong and get ready for the rest of the season.”

Livingston 7, Pacheco 6 in Livingston – Blake Jantz collected three hits as the Wolves (9-5) improved to 1-1 in the tourney.

St. Joseph 4, Atwater 0 in Atwater – Jack Dilmore fired a one-hit shutout as the Pilots (8-7) improved to 2-0 in the tournament. Jesus Duran reached base on a bunt single for Atwater (7-7) to break up the no-hit bid in the sixth inning.
