Buhach Colony’s Freitas headed to Masters. El Cap girls clinch share of CCC title.

Buhach Colony’s Maddie Freitas is headed to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament next week.

Freitas was the only area golfer to advance out of Monday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South Tournament held at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course in Atwater. Freitas finished with a round of 89 to qualify as one of the six individuals to earn a spot in the Masters tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton on Monday.

St. Mary’s won the Division I South team title, finishing with a team score of 463. The Rams had the top two individual performers in Skyler May (74) and Mara Anunciacion (77).

Turlock (469) and Lincoln (472) also earned trips to the Masters tournament with top-three finishes.

Buhach Colony finished with a team score of 504 for fifth place and El Capitan placed seventh with a team score of 543.

The Thunder’s Selena Thao missed one shot shy of qualifying for Masters with a round of 90. El Capitan’s Laura Gudgel finished with a 91 and teammates Lauren Miller with a 93.

Girls Volleyball

Le Grand 3, Waterford 0 in Waterford – Alexa Ultreras recorded 11 kills and teammate Joanna Chavez added 10 kills to lead the Bulldogs (10-3 Southern League) to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 victory over the Wildcats.

Girls Waterpolo

El Capitan 11, Pitman 3 in Turlock – The Gauchos clinched at least a share of the Central California Conference championship with a win over the Pride. Kendall Thomas scored five goals and came away with five steals. Marlo Carpenter added six steals for the Gauchos (11-1 CCC).

The title is the fourth league championship in a row for El Capitan.

Merced 9, Atwater 6 in Merced – Madeline Hall scored three goals and Katarina Capulong added two scores for the Bears.

Buhach Coloy 16, Turlock 6 in Atwater – The Thunder (10-1) kept their CCC championship hopes alive with a convincing victory over the Bulldogs. Pamela Solano paced the Thunder with six goals, three assists and seven steals. Erin McBride added seven steals.

Buhach Colony can clinch a share of its first girls water polo championship in school history on Wednesday at Atwater High.

Boys Water Polo

Turlock 8, Buhach Colony 7 in Atwater – The Thunder suffered their first CCC loss to drop to 10-1 in conference. Joe Bustabade led BC with four goals and Aaron Helfgott added five steals.

Buhach Colony can win the CCC title outright on Wednesday at Atwater.

Atwater 12, Merced 9 in Merced – Connor Norton scored six goals and came away with seven steals to propel the Falcons (9-2 CCC) past the Bears. Luke van Warmerdam added four goals for Atwater.

Hayden Giebeler led Merced with five goals.

El Capitan 6 Pitman 5 in Turlock – Aidan Ramirez scored three goals and Ben Falkenstein chipped in with two assists and seven steals as the Gauchos finished the season with a 6-6 record in the CCC.
