After having his team’s last two games canceled due to poor air quality, Lincoln High senior running back Jonah Coleman said he and his teammates were desperate to get back on the field.

It showed on Friday night.

The Trojans dominated from start to finish in a 50-0 drubbing of Buhach Colony at Dave Honey Stadium.

“We were angry that we couldn’t play and it motivated us even more,” Coleman said. “We took it out on (Buhach Colony).

The Trojans (1-1) came into the game ranked No. 5 in the Sac-Joaquin Section by Max Preps and they lived up to the hype.

Lincoln quarterback Kenyan Nelson completed 8 of 12 passes for 164 yards and five touchdowns. Nelson also ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.

Coleman, who has verbally committed to the University of Arizona, hauled in two touchdown catches and finished with 90 yards of total offense.

Lincoln receiver Tyrone De loney also hauled in two touchdown catches.

The Thunder (0-3) were playing without their two inside linebackers. One was a COVID issue and the other was due to a concussion. Buhach Colony lost another playmaker in Payton Johnson in the first half after he injured his ankle.

With Lincoln leading 36-0 at the half, the second half was played with a running clock.

“(Lincoln) is just a more talented team,” said Buhach Colony coach Jerry Dietz. “I knew they were going to be tough when we scheduled them. They lived up to the hype. They’re a physical team.”

Dietz said his team will put this game behind them and move on.

Buhach Colony is scheduled to play Golden Valley next week, but the Cougars are going to be forced to forfeit the game due to COVID.

Golden Valley had to postpone Friday night’s game against Pitman until Sept. 24. According to Golden Valley athletic director Matt Thissen, the Cougars had three players test positive and the team has to shut down for 10 days under the guidelines set by the Merced County Department of Public Health.

Buhach Colony athletic director Kevin Navarra says he’s made some calls to a couple schools about possibly scheduling a game this week.

East Union 54, Atwater 7 — Lancers quarterback Luke Weaver threw three touchdowns and ran for two others. The game was played with a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Atwater (0-4) hosts Merced (2-2) in the Santa Fe Bowl next week.

Dos Palos 41, Exeter 0 — The Broncos defense dominated, intercepting three passes and J. Tapia recorded three sacks.

Dos Palos quarterback Trent Calvert rushed for four touchdowns and over 100 yards and threw for another score.

Livingston 43, El Capitan 7 — Wolves running back Carlos Baez scored on touchdown runs of 74 and 2 yards and Livingston quarterback Rocklin Baptista added a 35-yard touchdown run and two touchdown passes.
