Roundup: Atwater, Buhach Colony both pick up first victories. Livingston records shutout.
Atwater senior James Thomas scored three rushing touchdowns and receiver Cameron Frazier grabbed two touchdown passes as the Falcons picked up their first win of the season with a 60-14 win over El Capitan.
Atwater put this one away early, jumping out to a 31-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Atwater improved to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.
El Capitan dropped to 0-6 and 0-2 in the CCC.
Pitman 28, Golden Valley 27 — Eleazar Garza and Jabari Phillips both scored two touchdowns as the Cougars returned to action after having to postpone their last two games after a COVID-19 outbreak.
The Cougars (1-3 overall) will attempt to still get all 10 games in with some creative scheduling that includes four games in 15 days.
Golden Valley moved up next week’s game against Central Valley from Thursday to Wednesday night at Veterans Stadium. the Cougars will then host Buhach Colony on Monday, October 4 and then will play Friday, Oct. 8 at Atwater.
Buhach Colony 20, Central Valley 14 (OT) — The Thunder (1-4, 1-0) picked up their first win of the season with an overtime victory over the Hawks.
Tyler Havel scored all three touchdowns for Buhach Colony, including a 3-yard touchdown run in overtime.
Livingston 27, Hughson 0 — Rocklin Baptista threw two touchdowns and ran in another score as the Wolves rebounded from a tough loss to Hilmar last week with an impressive win over the Huskies.
The Wolves improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the TVL.
Waterford 49, Le Grand 33 — The Wildcats sprinted out to a 35-6 lead midway through the second quarter behind three touchdown passes from Aaron Adams and two scoring runs by Adams.
Le Grand (2-3, 1-1 Southern League) battled back as Julian Bucio connected with Carlos Castaneda for three touchdown passes, including 68 and 53 yard scores.
The Bulldogs cut the Wildcats’ lead to 35-27 by the end of the third quarter, but Waterford put the game away in the fourth quarter to improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SL.
Dos Palos 38, McLane 14 — Broncos quarterback Trent Calvert threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Hernan Hernandez as Dos Palos improved to 5-0 this season.
Calvert also added a rushing touchdown.
Grace Davis 40, Los Banos 25 — The Spartans came away with four interceptions and Isaac Martinez returned a kickoff for a touchdown with under a minute left in the first half that sparked the Spartans’ offense.
Tigers receiver Mark Carreiro caught three passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. He also recovered a fumble for a touchdown on defense. Running back Adrian Ramirez carried the ball 22 times for 109 yards.
The Tigers dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
