Roundup: Merced scores 73 points against El Capitan on a night of many lopsided scores

The Merced High football team built a 33-6 lead early in the second quarter despite running just four offensive plays.

The first six offensive plays for the Bears all went for a touchdown as the rout was on. Merced rebounded after a tough loss to Patterson last week with a 73-14 win over El Capitan on Friday night at Veterans Stadium.

Enoch Evans had a touchdown catch and a touchdown run during the scoring flurry in the first quarter.

Seth Scheidt ran in a touchdown from beyond 30 yards and connected with Evahn Perez on a 60-yard touchdown pass.

Jack Collins added a kickoff return for a score for the Bears, who improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Central California Conference.

Evans added a third touchdown and Chase Smith scored on a 60-yard run as the Bears scored on their first six offensive plays and opened up a 53-6 lead in the second quarter.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Grace Davis 34, Pacheco 21 — The Spartans remained unbeaten at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference after jumping out to a 26-0 lead against the Panthers.

Pacheco (2-4, 1-2 WAC) scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to close within two scores.

Los Banos 34, Mountain House 14 — Mark Carreiro returned a kickoff 74-yards for a score in the first quarter and later caught a touchdown for the Tigers.

Los Banos running back Adrian Ramirez rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback David Herrera tossed two touchdowns.

Joe Archutowski led the Los Banos defense with seven tackles and a blocked punt.

Los Banos improved to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the WAC.

Le Grand 49, Denair 12 — Louie Aguallo ran for 176 and three touchdowns on just eight carries as the Bulldogs ran over the Coyotes.

Le Grand rushed for 376 yards behind the offensive line of Fermin Villegas, Cameron McClosky, Rafa Gómez, Nayen Lua and Raúl Sánchez.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Southern League.

Dos Palos 35, Mendota 0 — Broncos quarterback Trent Calvert scored three touchdowns as the Broncos (6-0) picked up their second shutout of the season and opened West Sierra League play with a victory.
