Roundup: Golden Valley’s Garza accounts for six touchdowns in win over Atwater
Golden Valley High quarterback Eleazar Garza had a career night, throwing five touchdowns and rushing for another score as the Cougars defeated Atwater 49-20 on Friday night at Dave Honey Stadium.
The Cougars improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the Central California Conference.
Garza connected with sophomore receiver Johan White for three touchdowns of 57, 5 and 32 yards. Garza also threw scoring strikes to JaMarcus Phillips and Damarrius Hammonds.
The Falcons dropped to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCC.
Buhach Colony 44, El Capitan 7 — Kailin Frade opened the Thunder scoring with a pick-six, returning an interception 42 yards for a first-quarter touchdown.
It was all Thunder (2-4, 2-0 CCC) after that.
Jaxson Percoats scored four touchdowns on runs of 12, 45 and 40 yards and also returned a kickoff 90 yards for another score. The Thunder star also intercepted a pass on defense to help set up another BC touchdown.
Buhach Colony travels to Merced next week.
Dos Palos 35, Tranquillity 0 — The Broncos (7-0, 2-0 West Sierra League) posted their second consecutive shutout and third shutout of the season.
Dos Palos quarterback Trent Calvert connected on touchdown passes to Miguel Padeiro and William Montemurro in the first half to help build a 14-0 lead at intermission.
Calvert then added two touchdown runs in the second half to help the Broncos pull away.
Felix Garcia led the Dos Palos defense with eight tackles, including four tackles for loss.
Le Grand 48, Ripon Christian 28 — Bulldogs receiver Carlos Castaneda had a huge game, hauling in 10 receptions for 198 yards and three touchdowns as Le Grand improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Southern League.
Castaneda scored on touchdown catches of 38, 38 and 53 yards from Bulldogs quarterback Julian Bucio.
Alexis Granados scored two touchdowns for Le Grand, including a 30-yard fumble recovery.
Le Grand running back Louie Aguallo added 28 carries for 109 yards.
Waterford 41, Gustine 10 — Wildcats quarterback Aaron Adams threw five touchdowns as Waterford remained undefeated at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southern League.
