The Merced High girls golf team won their fourth consecutive Central California Conference after winning the CCC tournament earlier this week.

The Bears wrapped up a perfect record in the CCC by winning the tournament with a team score of 548. Buhach Colony finished second with a score of 565.

Leading the way for Merced was senior Kiahna Castillo, who turned in a round of 94. Angelina Reyna (104), Amena Gomez (107) and Brooke Veyl (112) all chipped in to help the Bears finish off the tournament championship.

Castillo, Reyna and Veyl have all been part of the last three Merced CCC championship teams.

“We knew we were returning the league MVP (Castillo) and everyone else on our team really improved, but we all the other teams improved as well,” said Merced girls golf coach John Kane.

“We had some nip and tuck matches along the way, but the way the seniors played, we stayed steady throughout the season,” Kane added.

Buhach Colony’s Alexis Carter turned in the low score for the tournament with a round of 90.

Merced, Buhach Colony and Golden Valley will advance to represent the CCC at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Championship at Paradise Golf Course in Fairfield on Monday, Oct. 25.

Also qualifying invidually from the CCC to compete in the Division III championship is El Capitan’s Gabrielle Jasso, Atwater’s Natalie Medina, Audrey Dores and Miranda Dores, and Central Valley’s Lina Bernal and Lucia Bernal.
