Merced, Buhach Colony, El Capitan lead area volleyball teams into section playoffs

The El Capitan, Buhach Colony and Merced high school girls volleyball programs all got to celebrate winning a share of the Central California Conference championship.

All three teams won their regular season finales to earn a piece of the championship and all three will advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.

Buhach Colony (24-8) was the only one of the trio to earn a home playoff game. The Thunder earned the No. 7 seed in the Division II bracket and will host No. 10 Tokay.

El Capitan and Merced are also in the Division II field. El Capitan (22-9) is the No. 9 seed and will open at No. 8 Roseville. Merced (17-7) is the No. 11 seed and will open at No. 6 Vista Del Lago.

Hilmar and Los Banos are both in the Division III field. The Yellowjackets (13-11) are the No. 11 seed and will travel to No. 6 Beyer on Tuesday. The Tigers (11-11) are the No. 14 seed and will travel to No. 3 Manteca.

In Division V, Stone Ridge Christian (20-8) earned the No. 5 seed will open at home against No. 12 Rio Vista. Le Grand (15-11) is the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Aspire Langston Hughes Academy in the first round. Mariposa (13-12) is the No. 11 seed and will travel to No. 6 Bradshaw Christian.

The Central Section girls volleyball playoffs will also get started on Tuesday. Chowchilla (10-16) is the No. 12 seed in the Division V bracket and will travel to No. 5 Mission Oak for a first-round match.
